home in exile

I lose my life in Syria. I lose everything.
— Hazar Al-Sibai, a Syrian mother and new refugee to Canada

Every year thousands of people are forced to leave behind their homes and families because of violence. Once refugees resettle in their new countries, there is little focus on the individual struggles they face in their day to day lives. What is it like learning a new language? How does one navigate the transit system? How can you make new friends? In the middle of huge upheaval, how do refugees attempt to adjust and maybe not move on, but move forward?

Our goal with this project is to tell the stories of real people and to enable them to tell their own stories. By asking individuals about the actions of their everyday lives and the meaning behind them, we gain an understanding of how victims of injustice struggle to find peace through their day to day actions.
